Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy has demanded the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed by Parliament. He made this demand while launching the Congress’s ‘Six guarantees’ campaign in the Kodad constituency along with his wife and former MLA N Padmavathi. They stated that if Congress forms a government in Telangana, they will implement the six guarantees announced by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

While they welcomed the Women’s Reservation Bill, they criticized the Modi government’s plan to delay its implementation. Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the BJP government of using the bill as a propaganda tool and wanting to delay it by at least 10 years. He mentioned that the Congress government led by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had initiated the Women’s Reservation Bill in 1987, which recommended reservation of seats for women in elected bodies.

Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the Congress party has always had a clear vision for women’s empowerment and the political will to execute its plans. On the other hand, he accused the BJP government of using the bill to divert attention from other important issues. He pointed out that if the BJP was serious about the Women’s Reservation Bill, they could have passed it in 2014 when they had the required strength in the Lok Sabha. However, they did nothing for 10 years and now, just months before the elections, they rushed to pass the bill for implementation after a decade.

Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the BJP is using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a political strategy for the upcoming general elections. However, he expressed confidence that people are aware of their tactics and publicity stunts.
