Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has blamed the previous BRS government for the water crisis in Telangana. His comments came after BRS leader T Harish Rao accused the current government of mismanaging water resources, which could lead to an irrigation crisis during the Rabi season.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam Kumar Reddy dismissed concerns about water shortages. He assured that the Congress government is supplying water according to the Rabi action plan. He also mentioned that Telangana produced more paddy during the Kharif season than it did in the past under united Andhra Pradesh. He expects Rabi cultivation to exceed 55 lakh acres.
The minister criticized the previous BRS government for mismanaging water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers. He accused them of allowing Andhra Pradesh to build infrastructure that draws excess water. He also alleged that BRS gave a written commitment to allocate 512 TMC of Krishna River water to Andhra Pradesh, which has now led to problems for Telangana’s farmers.
Since Congress came to power, efforts have been made to correct these issues, Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed. He blamed BRS for failing to construct the Tummidi Hatti project, which he called a major loss for Telangana. He also pointed out a report from NDSA, warning that if safety measures were not taken at Medigadda, entire villages could be submerged.
Uttam Kumar Reddy urged Harish Rao to stop misleading the public with false allegations. He emphasized that the Congress government is managing the state’s water resources efficiently and taking necessary steps to prevent further crises.
