Telangana State BJP vice-president and former Uppal MLA NVSS Prabhakar criticized the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the State government for their lackluster efforts in completing the Uppal Elevated Corridor. According to Prabhakar, the civic body only started working on the project after pressure from the concerned union ministry, which he had approached to address the issues faced by the people due to the slow progress of the corridor.
Prabhakar and G Manohar Reddy met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi to discuss the state government’s financial situation and economic policies. They highlighted how the Telangana government heavily relies on liquor sales and selling government lands to increase revenue, while diverting Central government funds meant for rural development. Prabhakar also mentioned the misuse of Central funds allocated for various development projects, such as Awas Yojna, SadakYojna, and smart city initiatives. Additionally, he raised concerns about the diversion of Finance Commission funds for local bodies to pay electricity bills and staff salaries.
The former MLA informed the Finance Minister that the state government has failed to allocate its share of funds for central-sponsored schemes, leading to adverse effects on education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
In a meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Prabhakar expressed the inconveniences faced by the people of Uppal due to the prolonged delay in completing the Uppal Elevated Corridor. He emphasized that despite receiving funds from the Centre, the state government intentionally delayed the project.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav assured Prabhakar that the Cherlapalli railway terminal work is nearing completion and will be fully finished within two months. This terminal will be the largest in Telangana, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate it. Prabhakar also raised the demand of the people of Puttparthi to have the Secunderabad-Bangalore Vande Bharat express stop at Puttaparti railway station, which the Railway Minister promised to look into.
During his visit, Prabhakar also met Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goel to discuss further matters.
