The campaigning for the SCCL-recognized union elections ended on December 25. The SCCL is now preparing to conduct the polls on Wednesday. The elections will take place in 11 areas of six districts along the Godavari River where the coal mines are located. Around 40,000 SCCL employees, including coal mine workers, will be voting in these elections.
In the past, these elections have been held six times. AITUC’s SCWU won three times, SCMLU (affiliated with Congress trade union wing INTUC) won once, and TBGKS (affiliated with BRS) won twice. Along with these three, ten other organizations are also participating in the elections. The SCWU and SCMLU have campaigned vigorously for these elections, which are taking place shortly after the new Congress government came into power in the State.
