Prof. Mamidala Jagdish Kumar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), officially launched the UGC Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP). This plan aims to enhance the competencies of UGC employees and improve their overall capacity. The Capacity Building Commission (CBC) was established by the Government of India on April 1, 2021, and UGC is the first autonomous organization to collaborate with CBC for capacity building.

The ACBP is a comprehensive plan derived from a Capacity Need Assessment exercise conducted over six months starting from March 2023. More than 600 UGC employees have already been onboarded on the iGotKarmayogi platform for capacity building. In the first quarter of October to December 2023, 630 employees successfully completed over 4,500 courses, with an average of 7 courses per employee.

Additionally, UGC has organized various offline training programs on topics such as Reservation in Services, Introduction to Emerging Technologies, Data-Driven Decision Making, PFMS Awareness, Contract Management, and RTI. These programs aim to strengthen the capacity of UGC employees and support the government’s Mission Karmayogi for skill enhancement.

The training areas for UGC employees include behavioural competencies, functional competencies, domain competencies, and technology competencies. Behavioural competencies enable employees to take on bigger roles, while functional competencies improve administration, procurement, and financial management. Enhancing domain competencies helps in specialized fields such as policy-making or project management. Training in technology competencies improves efficiency and digital record-keeping.

The UGC’s focus is to develop and enhance the abilities of its employees to better serve the higher education system in India. By investing in capacity building, UGC aims to improve the overall performance and efficiency of its workforce.
