The Hyderabad city police have successfully solved a theft case involving two Panchaloha idols. These idols were stolen from Sri Vinayaka Temple in Gurumurthy Nagar, SR Nagar, on Saturday. The police arrested two women and recovered the stolen idols from them.
The accused are Adidala Swarna Latha, 29, and J Pavani, 26. Both women live in NBT Nagar, Road No. 1, in Banjara Hills.
According to the police, Swarna Latha has faced many personal tragedies. Her brother, Andrew, passed away in November 2018 due to health issues. In January 2019, her brother’s son, Vivek, died by suicide. A few months later, in May 2019, her sister’s husband passed away due to COVID-19, and in the same month, her father, Sri Venkataratnam, also died of health problems. Additionally, her husband, Sunil Kumar, lost his life in a road accident.
Distressed by these events, Swarna Latha sought advice from a pujari (baba). He told her that installing and worshipping God’s idols would bring her peace and benefits. She wanted to buy idols but did not have enough money. This led her to steal the Panchaloha idols.
During the investigation, the police recovered the stolen idols from the accused. P Venkata Ramana, ACP of SR Nagar Division, confirmed the details of the case.
