Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operation Team (SOT) from Maheshwaram, along with the Ibrahimpatnam police, arrested two interstate drug peddlers. These peddlers were transporting ganja (a form of marijuana) from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra, passing through Hyderabad. The police seized 60 kilograms of ganja and a car, with a total value of Rs 35 lakh.
The arrested individuals were identified as Valmik Rupa Mohite, aged 53, and Bhatu Devram Chavan, aged 39, both residents of Maharashtra. However, another person involved, a drug dealer named Tirupati from Araku in Andhra Pradesh, is currently on the run.
According to the police, Valmik used to own a vehicle that he would use to transport goods to other states. During this time, he hired his relative Bhatu as a helper and co-driver. Bhatu was addicted to ganja and, about six months ago, while transporting onions from Maharashtra to the Visakhapatnam vegetable market, he came into contact with Tirupati. They both began discussing the possibility of ganja peddling.
To facilitate their illegal activities, Valmik purchased a car specifically for smuggling ganja. He would frequently transport marijuana from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra, passing through Hyderabad.
On August 25, Valmik and Bhatu traveled to Visakhapatnam, where they purchased 60 kilograms of ganja. They then began their journey from Pendurthi in Andhra Pradesh to Nasik in Maharashtra. To avoid getting caught by the police, they chose a route that took them through Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Suryapet, Choutuppal, and Ibrahimpatnam.
However, on Tuesday morning, the SOT team, along with the Ibrahimpatnam police, intercepted the duo at Raipole village in the Ibrahimpatnam mandal. The police successfully apprehended the accused and seized the ganja from their possession.
