Twitter has made parts of its computer code available to the public, with the rest set to be released in the coming weeks, according to owner Elon Musk. The move is intended to promote transparency and trust among users, while allowing programmers to suggest modifications to the algorithm. The code has been uploaded to two repositories on Github, including the recommendations algorithm that controls users’ timelines. Musk has also promised to update the algorithm based on user suggestions every 24 to 48 hours. Twitter’s ad recommendation code has not been included, and code compromising user safety or privacy has been excluded.
