Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao has requested the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) Chairman, MK Sinha, to protect Telangana’s interests in the sharing of river water between the Telugu States. This request was made during a courtesy call by the GRMB chairman to the minister on Wednesday.
During their meeting, they discussed the redesign of the Peddavagu project in the Bhadradri district, which has been affected by heavy rain. The minister mentioned that reconstructing the project with eight gates will allow it to discharge 80,000 cusecs of water. He noted that Peddavagu is a joint project between Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana.
Minister Tummala requested the GRMB to coordinate the reconstruction of the project and also urged them to take steps to repair the canals within the jurisdictions of both States. The Peddavagu project provides irrigation facilities for 16,000 acres in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Additionally, Rao discussed the sharing of Godavari water between the two States. He asked the GRMB chairman to ensure that the water allocation is managed in a way that prevents conflicts between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over water sharing.
