Heavy rain has severely damaged the Pedda Vagu project in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. This has caused a huge loss to the farmers in the area.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao visited the site on Sunday. He expressed his sadness over the incident and reassured that the government will support all those affected by the floods.
Minister Rao pointed out that the lack of coordination and negligence by the authorities led to the dam breaking. He stressed the need for proper measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Plans are being made to redesign and reconstruct the project. This will be done in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government.
A recent mudslide near Gummadivalli in Ashwaraopet mandal added to the financial loss, which is estimated to be worth crores of rupees. The Pedda Vagu project, built in 1975, has been a point of contention between the two states since the bifurcation.
Minister Rao assured that steps will be taken to ensure that residents are not inconvenienced during the reconstruction process.
