Hyderabad: State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has called for the promotion of horticultural crops. He suggested reducing the area used for paddy cultivation, which is increasing in the state, and focusing more on diversifying crops. The Minister made this statement on Saturday during a meeting with Dr. Danda Rajireddy, the new Vice-Chancellor of Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University.
During the meeting, Minister Rao emphasized that growing multiple crops on the same piece of land is an effective way to boost farmers’ incomes. He urged the university to work closely with farmers and offer them the necessary support.
The Minister also stressed the importance of training farmers to grow fruits, vegetables, and spices using a multi-layered farming approach. He highlighted that crops like palm oil and other garden varieties should be promoted as alternatives to rice. According to him, horticultural crops provide quicker returns on investment, benefiting farmers in the short term.
