The Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association (TTGDA) met with the Director of Medical Education (DME) on Thursday to discuss their long-standing concerns. The association, led by President Dr. Kiran Bollepaka, submitted a formal request to resolve these issues.
One of their key concerns was the delay in approving the Peripheral Medical College Allowance. They informed the DME that the file was pending with the Finance Department and urged a speedy resolution. They believe that approving this allowance would encourage faculty members to serve in remote areas, ultimately improving patient care.
The doctors also requested that the additional Director of Medical Education (DME) posts be filled on a permanent basis instead of through temporary in-charge appointments. They argued that having permanent officials in these positions would lead to better decision-making and faster resolution of grievances.
Furthermore, the association emphasized that their governing body is the National Medical Commission (NMC), not the University Grants Commission (UGC). Therefore, they urged the implementation of a separate pay scale for DME doctors. They pointed out that the National Task Force of the NMC has recommended that DME doctors receive salaries and allowances at par with AIIMS doctors across the country.
Another concern raised was the need for better relationships between health and district administrators and faculty members. The doctors requested that the DME instruct administrators to maintain a positive and professional working environment, as administrative actions in some institutions were causing disruptions.
The association also suggested that each cadre in medical colleges have a clearly defined job chart to prevent confusion about roles and responsibilities. Additionally, they called for strengthening the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) systems to ensure the smooth functioning of government medical colleges.
