Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) recently awarded cash prizes to women passengers who won the Rakhi festival lucky draw at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Hyderabad. The event was attended by TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar, who presented cash prizes of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 10,000 to the 33 winners.

To enter the contest, TSRTC set up drop boxes at various bus stations, regional offices, and busy locations, where women were asked to drop their tickets with their name and phone number. The draw took place on August 30 and 31, with approximately 3.5 lakh women participating.

During the event, Sajjanar mentioned that a record revenue of Rs 22.65 crore was collected during the Rakhi festival. This was the highest revenue ever received in a single day, surpassing even the previous record in united Andhra Pradesh.

In the future, TSRTC plans to hold lucky draws for every festival, including Dasara, Sankranti, and Ugadi. They also intend to organize monthly draws for passengers who book bus tickets in advance. Currently, eight special buses have been arranged for the convenience of women passengers in Greater Hyderabad, and four more routes will have dedicated ladies’ special buses.

Many mentioned that buses have been a part of their daily lives for years. One notable winner was K Pranjal, a seventh-grade student from Adilabad district, who won the second cash prize. She used the lucky draw facility after traveling by bus to tie rakhi to her younger brother. Sajjanar congratulated her and encouraged her to aspire to higher positions in life, reminding her that even those in prominent positions have utilized RTC bus services.
