Demand for new MMTS stations along the Charlapalli-Sanatnagar section is increasing as MMTS trains now run from Ghatkesar to Lingampally. People are hopeful that affordable public transport will improve with the addition of these new stations.
The Sadhana Samithi and Suburban Train Travellers Association have asked railway officials to build a new station at Anandbagh and another near Loyola College, Alwal. They want a temporary survey committee to identify sites for more new stations along the Charlapalli-Sanathnagar stretch to extend MMTS services to Umdanagar, Lingampalli, Hyderabad, and Secunderabad.
Ten years ago, plans were made for six new stations along this section, but the need for additional stations has grown with the development of new colonies, schools, colleges, and hospitals nearby. Residents, including commuters to places like Hi-Tech City and students of Loyola Academy, are asking for railway stations in areas like Uppariguda, Anandbagh, and Loyola College-Alwal.
The State and Central governments must address the public’s needs, and public representatives should secure funds for phase II as planned. With recent funding allocated for station development under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, there is an opportunity for progress. Efforts should be made to enhance the city’s transport system around the Charlapalli terminal, which has the potential for about 25 trains, benefitting the people, according to V Mahender Reddy, president of Loyola College.
