A tragic incident occurred in Kaithapathal, Upputhara, located in Kerala’s Idukki district on Thursday. A 38-year-old woman, Lija, committed suicide along with her 7-year-old son, Ben Tom. This devastating act was a result of Lija’s depression after her 28-day-old child passed away.
The incident took place early in the morning, around 6 am, when the rest of the family members had gone to church, leaving Lija and Ben alone at home. The mother and son duo chose to end their lives by jumping into the well on their property.
After returning from church, the family members found that Lija and Ben were missing. Later, their bodies were discovered inside the well close to their house. Fire and rescue personnel were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene to remove the remains from the well.
Lija’s newborn had passed away two days prior after choking on breast milk, which led to her depression. The infant’s funeral was held on Wednesday before this tragic incident occurred. The postmortem will be conducted, and the funeral service for Lija and Ben will take place later.
This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of seeking help and support during difficult times. It is crucial to address mental health issues and seek professional help to prevent such tragic events from occurring.
