Hyderabad, known for its vibrant culture and burgeoning IT sector, is grappling with a daily ordeal: paralyzing traffic congestion. Since the formation of the Congress government, the city has witnessed a surge in vehicular movement, primarily attributed to VIP movements, exacerbating the existing traffic snarls.
One of the critical contributors to the gridlock is the ongoing TSSPDCL work in Mehdipatnam, which has transformed previously four-lane roads into cramped three-lane passages, further impeding the flow of vehicles. Despite attempts to alleviate the situation with U-turns, the consensus among residents is that road widening remains the most viable solution.
The city’s burgeoning IT sector has attracted a significant influx of workers, exacerbating the congestion. Areas like Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam, gateway points to employment hubs like HITEC City, witness particularly heavy traffic as commuters flock to these destinations daily.
Efforts to divert traffic from the old city via Nanal Nagar have been marred by bottlenecks near Olive Hospital, compounding the issue. Numerous areas face similar challenges, with stalled road widening projects blamed for exacerbating bottlenecks that have persisted for years.
The annual Numaish exhibition also contributes to the surge in traffic, attracting crowds from across the city and beyond. Despite the growing frustration among citizens, highlighted by a deluge of tweets on social media, tangible actions to address the issue have been scarce.
As Hyderabad grapples with its traffic woes, residents are urging authorities to prioritize infrastructure development and expedite pending projects to alleviate the daily ordeal endured by thousands of commuters.
