A National Conference on Millets: The Future Super Food for the World is being held at Novotel HICC, Hyderabad today. The conference is being organized by industry body Assocham in association with Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, ICRISAT, ICAR – NAARM, ICAR – IIMR and ICMR – National Institute of Nutrition. The aim of the conference is to engage stakeholders from both domestic and international levels and promote the growth of millets. The goal is to create a more sustainable and equitable food system for everyone.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in alternative, more sustainable food sources. Millets are one such food source. They are a group of small-seeded cereal grains that are grown in dry and semi-arid regions of the world. Millets have been staple foods for thousands of years in many parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. However, they have declined in popularity in recent times due to the increased consumption of wheat and rice.

Millets are known for their high nutritional value, drought tolerance, and resilience to extreme weather conditions. They are packed with essential nutrients such as protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Millets are also gluten-free, making them an excellent option for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease.
