Over 200 prisoners from Cherlapally prison in Hyderabad, most of whom are serving life sentences, will be able to go back to their families on July 3. This comes after Telangana Governor CP Radhakrishna gave his approval for the State government to release these prisoners under special remission.
The families of these prisoners had requested their release during the Prajapalana campaign. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy then instructed authorities to look into the possibility of releasing 213 prisoners, including 205 serving life sentences, based on the applications received.
After the Telangana Prisons Department identified eligible prisoners and forwarded the proposal to the State government, the Cabinet approved their release. The list was then sent to the Governor for final approval. The prisoners are set to be released from Cherlapally Jail on July 3.
