South Central Railway, based in Hyderabad, has achieved a significant milestone by earning over Rs. 5,000 crores in Originating Passenger Revenue for the first time in its history. This amount is Rs. 881.37 crore more than the previous best earnings registered in 2019-20. Officials from SCR have attributed this success to the augmentation of 200 coaches in various Express trains, both permanently and temporarily, to meet the continuous and seasonal demand of passengers. In fact, 10,539 coaches have been attached to Express trains on a daily basis to clear waitlisted passengers, resulting in additional earnings of Rs. 81.28 crore for the Railways.
During festive and holiday seasons, SCR operated 3,543 special trains that transported 30.42 lakh passengers, resulting in additional earnings of Rs. 219.80 crore. The year also witnessed the introduction of new trains. For passenger comfort, eight pairs of Express trains have been converted to LHB rakes, which have a higher carrying capacity and have led to increased patronage of passengers towards rail services. In fact, the occupancy of Express trains in the zone has reached 123%.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, has attributed this success to the efficient coordination between various departments and effective utilization of available resources. He expressed extreme satisfaction in leading this premiere Zone.
