The United States is being investigated for spying on its allies, including Ukraine. Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid that the United States is not a reliable friend and that Iraq should not allow any U.S. troops on its land. Iran, which has strong ties with Iraq, does not support the U.S. military presence on its borders in Iraq and the Gulf, as Western military intervention is the cause of insecurity in the region. Khamenei said that Americans are not loyal to their European friends and that even the presence of one American in Iraq is too much.
The United States has 2,500 troops in Iraq to help local troops fight against ISIS. Rashid was in Tehran to strengthen ties between Iraq and Iran, but did not mention Iraq’s relationship with the United States.
