The president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Maria C Lehman, thinks that the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana is a success story that the world can learn from. The ASCE representatives were impressed by the world’s largest lift irrigation project. After K T Rama Rao, the IT and Industries Minister, gave a talk at the World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2023 held by ASCE in Henderson, Nevada, USA, he chatted with the top brass of ASCE about their thoughts and experience of visiting the project.
Shirley Clark, the president-elect of American Society of Civil Engineers – Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE-EWRI), said that she found the project mind-blowing and amazing. She added that it has raised the quality of life of residents of Telangana. Brian Parsons, the director of ASCE-EWRI, said that the social aspects associated with the project are an extra checkmark for the success of Kaleshwaram. Lehman emphasised that they really want to highlight game-changing projects like Kaleshwaram in the sustainability space.
The ASCE representatives plan to promote videos of the project and show them to others. Clark said that she would show the video to her students to make them understand how the project was designed and put together. KTR appreciated the ASCE delegation for visiting the project recently.
