Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Teaching Doctors’ Association (TGTDA) expressed strong disapproval on Friday regarding the transfer of specialist teaching doctors to primary health centres. The association argued that Telangana already has a government medical college in each district, and medical services in rural areas could be improved by appointing more doctors and using telemedicine services from professionals in urban areas.
The doctors emphasized that they are already overwhelmed due to the direct involvement of medical college faculty in rural areas. This situation is creating a shortage of doctors and also affecting their ability to meet the minimum attendance requirements set by the National Medical Commission.
The association warned that the survival of medical colleges could be at risk due to these transfers. One member particularly condemned the decision made by top medical officials to move specialists to primary health centres. “Such decisions do not benefit the system and are not being followed anywhere else in the country. We urge the government to reconsider this decision,” he said. He added that if the decision is not reversed, there may be a need for an indefinite strike.
