Hyderabad: The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has finished mapping its assets. This includes poles, distribution transformers, conductors, ring main units, and other equipment.

TGSPDCL began its survey on June 24. They covered 3,380 feeders in 44 towns and cities across the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar, and Nalgonda. The officials collected information on 3,285 feeders and 4.46 lakh survey points. These points include poles, dynamic thermal rating structures, and conductors, all mapped using GIS technology.

The engineering teams of TGSPDCL conducted a thorough assessment of their power distribution assets. They inspected each pole and transmission cable. In their preliminary survey, they found 12,692 damaged, broken, and rusted poles and 1,300 unsafe and unfenced distribution transformers. Specifically, they identified 1,846 defective poles in the Metro Zone, 3,386 in the Rangareddy Zone, 6,800 in the Medchal Zone, and 660 in the Rural Circle.

TGSPDCL chairman and managing director, Musharraf Ali Faruqui, instructed superintending engineers to start fixing these issues immediately. Faruqui, who has been working to improve the power utility systems, emphasized the need to prevent fund misappropriation. He mandated that photos of the repairs, along with GIS coordinates, must be updated and registered in the mobile app when submitting bills. The SPDCL management has allocated Rs 25.50 crore for these repair works.

To strengthen the electricity distribution system, SPDCL has also developed the TGAIMS (Asset Inspection and Maintenance System) mobile application. This app helps technically identify faults in the 33 kV, 11 kV, and LT networks, which include poles, distribution transformers, conductors, RMUs, and other equipment.
