To tackle the issue of frequent food poisoning incidents caused by mid-day meals in government schools across Telangana, the Telangana Education Commission (TGEC) has launched an extensive tour of schools across the state. The TGEC team, led by former IAS officer and Commission Chairman A Murali, includes members such as Prof. Visweshwar Rao, Jyotsna, and Dr. Venkatesh. On the first day of their tour, the team visited schools in Hyderabad, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, and other districts. During their visits, they plan to meet with various stakeholders, including school staff and local authorities, to better understand the challenges and identify solutions.

Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari has instructed all District Collectors to provide necessary support for the Commission’s visits. This includes ensuring proper logistics and security arrangements for the team as they carry out their inspections and interactions in schools.

The TGEC was recently formed to provide recommendations to the state government for improving the quality of education in Telangana. The Commission is tasked with drafting an education policy that focuses on enhancing learning outcomes and addressing systemic issues.

As part of their schedule, TGEC members will visit specific districts over the next few days. On November 29, A Murali will travel to Nagarkurnool, Jyotsna will visit Siddipet, Prof. Visweshwar Rao will inspect schools in Warangal, and Dr. Venkatesh will be in Mahbubnagar. Similarly, on November 30, Jyotsna will visit Ranga Reddy, Prof. Visweshwar Rao will head to Hanumakonda, and Dr. Venkatesh will inspect schools in the Nalgonda district.

In the first week of December, the TGEC Chairman and members are expected to hold meetings in the remaining districts. These inspections and consultations aim to address both the immediate concerns of food safety and the broader goal of improving the overall quality of education in Telangana’s government schools.
