Hyderabad:
Prof. V. Balakrishna Reddy has taken over as the new chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). Alongside him, Prof. E. Purushotham has been appointed as Vice-Chairman I of the council.
During a media address on Thursday, Prof. Reddy spoke about the need for affordable and innovative courses that can help students in Telangana stay competitive on the global stage. He was joined by Prof. E. Purushotham, outgoing chairman Prof. R. Limbadri, and Prof. Venkata Ramana at the event.
Prof. Reddy pointed out how globalization, digitization, and the Covid pandemic have changed the world. He noted that the 21st century is especially important for Asia, and particularly for India, because the country has the largest young population in the world.
He stressed that providing the right skills and knowledge to young people is key to helping them succeed globally. To achieve this, he suggested updating the syllabus to focus more on research and introducing new courses that teach 21st-century skills.
Drawing from his past experience at NALSAR University of Law, Prof. Reddy emphasized the importance of offering high-quality education at affordable prices. He also underlined the vital role of state universities in nurturing talent and said that the council would work hard to meet the expectations of the state government.
Outgoing chairman Prof. R. Limbadri and vice-chairman Prof. Venkata Ramana welcomed Prof. Reddy and Prof. Purushotham to their new roles. Prof. Limbadri also reflected on the initiatives the council has worked on during his time and thanked everyone for their support.
