Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Punjagutta police have arrested seven individuals involved in the illegal distribution and use of a drug called pentazocine, a narcotic substance. This drug, which falls under the category of opioids, was being sold without the necessary licenses required by the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
The arrests followed a confession made by a local drug peddler, Mohd Nayeemuddin, aged 39, from Yousufguda in Hyderabad. Based on his information, the police team traveled to Patna, Bihar, where they caught Vijay Kumar Gupta, a 25-year-old interstate drug peddler. Vijay owns Saraswathi Enterprises, a wholesale medical distributor in Saran Chapra district, Bihar.
In addition to Nayeemuddin and Vijay, the police also arrested five consumers: Namdev Mahesh (32) from Sainikpuri, and Salindra Lavan Kumar Yadav (27), Suresh Sai Kiran (28), Mudigonda Manish Yadav (30), and Jellala Nikhil Yadav (30), all residents of Malkajgiri. The arrested individuals were handed over to Punjagutta police on September 28, and a case was registered against them under the NDPS Act.
According to the police, Vijay started working at RGGS Medical Shop in Patna in January 2024. He noticed that many customers were willing to pay higher prices for pentazocine injections, which are not sold in regular medical shops due to their narcotic nature. Seeing a business opportunity, he set up his own pharmaceutical distribution company, Saraswathi Enterprises, and began selling these injections online through the India Mart website.
Nayeemuddin later came into contact with Vijay through the website and started purchasing the injections to sell them at a higher price to his local consumers.
