Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to give a lot of importance to sports training and help athletes compete in international events and win medals. To achieve this, they are planning to introduce a new Sports Policy soon.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held a meeting on Friday and asked officials to prepare the new Sports Policy. This policy will focus on building sports academies with top trainers. The government also plans to establish a Sports University at Gachibowli Stadium and bring several sports facilities like LB Stadium, Hakimpet Sports School, Saroornagar Indoor Stadium, and others under a Sports Hub for better management.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the Sports University, similar to the Young India Skill University, would be run under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. A special board will be created to manage the university, and a Chairman will be appointed to run it as an independent institution.
The Sports University will offer around 13 courses. Additionally, 14 sports training programs, including Cricket, Hockey, Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, and others, will be part of the Sports Hub.
The new Sports Policy will also focus on solving challenges in providing sports training and ensuring athletes have the skills needed to compete nationally and internationally. The government will work to find talented athletes in different sports and offer them training without affecting their studies. They are also planning to bring in top coaches from around the world by signing agreements with foreign universities.
The policy will also include clear guidelines on incentives for athletes who win medals at the national and international levels. The officials were asked to finalize the rules for the rewards and job opportunities that will be given to these winners.
