In the Kumaram Bheem district of Telangana, Congress politics is currently focused on the important position of District Congress Committee (DCC) president. With the recent appointment of a new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, the party has started selecting DCC presidents for all districts. This has sparked intense competition among leaders in Kumaram Bheem for the influential role.

At present, Vishwa Prasad Rao holds the post of DCC president. However, there are reports that some leaders are working to replace him. In the broader Adilabad region, which includes the districts of Nirmal, Mancherial, Asifabad, and Kumaram Bheem, most DCC presidents come from the Velama community. This has led to speculation that Kumaram Bheem district, which has a predominantly tribal population, may see a leadership change.

Two prominent leaders are in the race for the post: MLC Dande Vittal and Constituency In-Charge Ajmira Shyam Naik. Naik, who belongs to the tribal community, has openly demanded the position, emphasizing the district’s tribal demographics. He has also gained support from Sirpur Constituency In-Charge Ravi Srinivas.

On the other hand, MLC Vittal, a leader from the Backward Classes (BC) community, is reportedly close to Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy. Initially, Vittal sought the position with the backing of former MLA Atram Sakku. However, his candidacy has faced strong opposition from senior BC leaders in the party. These leaders argue that newcomers like Vittal should not be prioritized over long-time loyalists who stood by Congress during the BRS’s dominance over the past decade.

Due to the pushback from loyal party veterans, the Congress leadership is said to be rethinking Vittal’s candidacy. In a surprising development, Vittal has reportedly withdrawn his claim and decided to support the current DCC president, Vishwa Prasad Rao.

Meanwhile, Ajmira Shyam Naik remains firm in his efforts to secure the role. Sources suggest that he has been lobbying from Hyderabad to strengthen his position. His supporters believe that if Naik becomes the DCC president, he will be able to challenge the influence of KVP Rao, another prominent leader in the district.

Amid all the political maneuvering, senior Congress leaders in Kumaram Bheem district are advocating for Vishwa Prasad Rao to continue as DCC president. They highlight his experience and long-standing service to the party as key reasons for supporting his retention.
