A Telugu doctor named Ujwala Vemuru, 23 years old, from Elukapadu in Andhra Pradesh, died after falling into a gorge in Brisbane, Australia. Her parents had settled in Australia a long time ago. Her funeral will take place in her hometown on Saturday.
Ujwala’s parents migrated to Australia, and she completed her MBBS degree from Bond University in Gold Coast. She worked at the Royal Brisbane’s women’s hospital. Ujwala had always aspired to become a doctor and worked hard to achieve her goal.
According to the Brisbane police, Ujwala was trekking with friends on March 2, 2024, at Yanbacoochie Falls in Lamington National Park. She fell 20 meters to her death while trying to retrieve her camera that she had dropped. It took rescue teams over six hours to recover her body. Her friends, who were also doctors, tried to save her but were unsuccessful.
Dr. Ujwala’s remains will be brought back to her village by Saturday evening for her parents to conduct her last rites as per her grandparents’ wishes.
