Hyderabad: The last review of the IPS cadre in Telangana was conducted in 2016, according to Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai.
The Minister shared this information while responding to a question raised by Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He mentioned that a new review of the IPS cadre has been pending since 2021. The State government was asked in 2021 to submit a complete proposal for the review. The proposal has since been submitted and is currently under active consideration, with consultation from relevant stakeholders.
As per Rule 4(2) of the IPS (Cadre) Rules of 1954, the Central Government is required to review the strength and composition of each IPS cadre every five years in collaboration with the respective State government. The Central Government can then make any necessary changes it sees fit based on the review.
The Chief Minister of Telangana had sent official letters urging the Central Government to consider the State’s cadre review proposal. The Chief Minister has also been updated on the current status of the review process, the Minister added.
