Telangana universities won’t be able to hire foreign faculty, despite the University Grants Commission (UGC) allowing it. The cost of hiring foreign faculty is too high for universities in Telugu states and funding is also a problem. While some alumni would be willing to take temporary assignments, salaries, and standards of teaching would not match up. The UGC used to fund courses in emerging subjects but stopped, hurting universities’ ability to start new courses. However, universities like Osmania University are collaborating with international universities in research and double degree programmes, which will add an international dimension to their education.
