The Telangana government will honor famous dancer and Padma Shri awardee Nataraja Ramakrishna on his 102nd birth anniversary. A special event will be held at Ravindra Bharati on March 21 to recognize his contributions to classical dance, especially his work in reviving and promoting Telangana’s traditional dance forms.
At a press conference at Kalabhavan on Tuesday, Telangana Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Chairperson Alekhya Punjala spoke about the importance of celebrating Ramakrishna’s legacy. The event will include a seminar with presentations by well-known dance scholars such as Kalakrishna, Jonnalagadda Anuradha, and Gandham Basava Shankar. These scholars have all received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
Several important dignitaries will attend the event, including Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha. Their presence highlights the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting classical arts.
Nataraja Ramakrishna is known for reviving Perini Shivatandavam and Andhranatyam, playing a key role in shaping Telangana’s cultural heritage. Through this celebration, the state government hopes to inspire young artists and show its dedication to classical dance and performing arts.
