Telangana Partners with Google to Launch India’s First Google Safety Engineering Centre
The Telangana government has teamed up with Google to set up India’s first Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad. This facility will be the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region outside of Tokyo and only the fifth in the world, joining centers in Dublin, Munich, Malaga, and Tokyo.
The GSEC in Hyderabad will focus on addressing cybersecurity challenges both in India and globally. It will specialize in advanced research, develop AI-driven security tools, and enable collaborations among cybersecurity experts. The center also aims to contribute to skill development, create jobs, and drive innovation in the field of cybersecurity.

Telangana Wins Global Investment
Google had announced its intention to establish a GSEC in India during the Google for India 2024 conclave. Several states competed to secure this prestigious investment, but Telangana was ultimately chosen. This decision came after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister Dr. D. Sridhar Babu visited Google’s Global Headquarters in August, where they highlighted Hyderabad’s strengths as a technological and innovation hub.

Why GSEC is Important
The GSEC will focus on building secure online solutions, collaborating with academic institutions, and solving cybersecurity problems. It is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities. With this addition, Hyderabad, already home to major tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Meta, will further solidify its status as a global IT hub.
“This partnership demonstrates Hyderabad’s leadership in technology and cybersecurity. It will strengthen Telangana’s position on the global technology map and improve digital safety,” said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Future Collaborations with Google
Beyond the GSEC, the Telangana government and Google are exploring additional projects. These include setting up a Cloud Centre of Excellence, creating an intelligent traffic management system using Google technologies, and launching initiatives to improve education and support startups in the state.

A Vision for Growth and Innovation
The GSEC aligns with Telangana’s broader goals of fostering technological growth, enhancing skills, and driving innovation. It will integrate with initiatives like T-Fiber, a project aimed at connecting rural households with high-speed internet. Google’s involvement will help ensure these efforts are backed by strong digital safety measures.
Google’s Chief Information Officer, Royal Hansen, expressed confidence in the partnership, saying, “Hyderabad has the potential to become a global hub for safety engineering. This collaboration paves the way for future projects to tackle cybersecurity challenges.”

With this partnership, Telangana takes a major step toward becoming a leader in technology and innovation. Hyderabad is set to play a key role in shaping global cybersecurity standards and driving digital safety forward.
