Telangana Chief Minister Addresses Food Poisoning in Schools
Concerns are growing in Telangana over students falling ill after eating mid-day meals in government schools. In response, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held a meeting on Thursday with officials to discuss the issue.
The Chief Minister instructed District Collectors to treat students in government schools, hostels, and Gurukuls as if they were their own children. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that no negligence occurs in the preparation and distribution of food.
Revanth Reddy directed Collectors to visit schools regularly and submit detailed reports about the food being served. He also warned that strict action, including termination, would be taken against officials or staff found guilty of neglecting the quality of meals provided to students.
The Chief Minister reminded everyone that teachers and staff are responsible for delivering both quality education and nutritious meals to students. He highlighted that additional funds have been allocated to improve the quality of mid-day meals.
However, he expressed concern over certain groups spreading false rumors to damage the government’s reputation. He urged officials to take action against individuals spreading unnecessary panic among parents.
High Court Raises Concerns Over School Conditions
On Wednesday, the Telangana High Court, led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, criticized the poor conditions at Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School in Narayanpet district. Many students from the school fell ill after consuming stale food and had to be hospitalized for food poisoning at Makthal hospital.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Aradhe stressed the urgency of addressing such issues. He reminded school education officials that they, too, have children in schools and must ensure that students in government institutions receive proper care, including safe and nutritious meals.
The court’s remarks and the Chief Minister’s actions underline the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate improvements to safeguard the health of schoolchildren in Telangana.
