Telangana Police Recover Over 50,000 Stolen Mobile Phones

The Telangana State police have made a major achievement by recovering 50,788 stolen mobile phones from April 20, 2023, to the present. This accomplishment places them second in the country for mobile phone recoveries.

The police were able to track and recover these phones using a system called CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register). This portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to help combat mobile theft and stop the use of counterfeit devices. The CEIR system was launched nationwide on May 17, 2023, after a pilot project in Telangana that started on April 19, 2023.

Shikha Goel, who is the Director General of CID in Telangana, played a key role in this effort. She is both the State Nodal Officer and a super user of the CEIR system. Under her guidance, the system has been made available in all 780 police stations across the state.

According to Shikha Goel, Telangana police reached the milestone of recovering 50,000 devices by October 29, 2024. They achieved this in just 557 days, which is 172 days faster than Karnataka, the previous record holder. On average, Telangana police now recover 91 mobile phones every day, an increase from 87 per day in July 2024.

During the monthly crime review meeting, Telangana’s DGP, Dr. Jitender, handed out appreciation certificates to 11 high-performing police units and ten police stations that excelled in mobile recoveries. Unit-level nodal officers and police station heads also received letters of appreciation for their efforts. Senior officers, including the DG, CID, Director of TG-ANB, and the ADGP of law and order, were present at the event.

Officials also reminded citizens that they can report lost or stolen mobile devices through the TG Police Citizen Portal at www.tspolice.gov.in or directly on the CEIR website at www.ceir.gov.in.
