In Hyderabad, newly elected lawmakers, including ministers and MLAs, are buying expensive cars such as Defender, Range Rover, Lexus, Benz, and Volvo. These cars can cost anywhere between Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 crore. Previously, Toyota Fortuner cars were the preferred choice for MLAs to show off their status. However, now they are opting for imported luxury cars.
During the third Assembly session, many MLAs arrived in their new cars. The Toyota Fortuner used to be the official vehicle for most legislators and ministers, with over 70 MLAs using it. These cars are equipped with advanced technology for safety and secure mobile usage during high-speed travel. In the previous Assembly, Innova cars were more commonly used by sitting MLAs.
Not only Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who already owns a Land Cruiser, but also BJP, BRS, and Congress MLAs and ministers have purchased expensive cars. Former BRS minister T Srinivas Yadav is using a Defender, while Gangula Kamalakar has bought a new Lexus car. Congress MLA M Rohit’s car, called ‘GMC’, attracted a lot of attention at the Assembly premises since it costs around Rs 3 crore, including import duties. The newly-elected BJP MLA P Rakesh Reddy is using an updated version of the Benz Formatic car. Even first-time Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy from Jadcharla is driving a Benz car.
A few MLAs from BRS and Congress are arriving in Audi, Volvo, and BMW cars for the Assembly session. AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi already owns a Benz sports vehicle. R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Excise and Prohibition Minister Jupally Krishna Rao are also using Benz cars.
The display of expensive cars by MLAs in the first session of the newly-elected Congress government has caught people’s attention. It seems that the elected representatives are more focused on showcasing their status symbols through these luxury cars. This growing trend reflects a shift in the lifestyles of lawmakers, as they adopt a more luxurious lifestyle similar to film celebrities and corporate honchos.
