The Telangana Legislature's budget session is set to begin on Wednesday, 12 March 2025. The session will start with a traditional address by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to the joint sitting of the Legislature. After his speech, the House will be adjourned for the day.

Later, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will meet to decide the session’s duration and agenda. The discussions will focus on key legislative and policy matters.

    KCR’s Presence Expected

The session is expected to be politically charged as Opposition leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) may attend. This was hinted at by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). To prepare, KCR held a meeting with BRS legislators on Tuesday, 11 March, to discuss the party’s strategy.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has criticized KCR for his absence from Assembly proceedings. He claimed that KCR lacks credibility in raising issues after allegedly leading Telangana into a financial crisis. Additionally, the BJP is preparing to challenge the Congress government, focusing on unfulfilled or partially fulfilled promises.

    Key Legislative Plans

The government plans to introduce a Bill to increase Backward Class (BC) reservations in education and employment to 42%. A resolution will also be passed, urging the Central Government to approve this change. The decision is based on a caste census conducted across Telangana, covering all but 3.1% of the population.

The State Budget for 2025-26 is expected to be presented on 19 March 2025. Officials estimate a total outlay of around ₹3 lakh crore, which is a 5-6% increase from the current fiscal year’s ₹2.9 lakh crore.

With major political debates and key legislative proposals on the agenda, this budget session is expected to be intense and closely followed.
