Telangana Jagruthi to Push for Increased BC Reservations
The Telangana Jagruthi has announced plans to submit a detailed report to the Dedicated Backward Classes (BC) Commission set up by the Telangana government. The report will focus on the importance of conducting a caste survey and increasing reservations for BCs in local body elections.
Telangana Jagruthi President and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, along with other leaders of the organisation, will soon present the report to the Commission Chairman, Busani Venkateswara Rao. Kavitha held a meeting with Telangana Jagruthi leaders and key activists at her residence on Friday to discuss the issue. Notably, this marks Kavitha’s first political statement since her release from jail, highlighting the need for enhancing BC reservations.
In preparation for this report, Telangana Jagruthi previously organised round-table meetings across all districts of Telangana. These discussions brought together BC association leaders, intellectuals, journalists, and other prominent figures to gather insights on the caste census and the demand for increased BC reservations in local bodies. Based on these consultations, the organisation has compiled a comprehensive, district-wise report that includes input from BC leaders, academicians, and experts.
During the meeting, MLC Kavitha stressed that weaker sections of society, particularly BCs, still face inadequate representation in education and employment. She urged governments to address these gaps and work towards empowering marginalised communities. Kavitha also highlighted the importance of strengthening political representation for BCs to ensure their voices are heard.
