Telangana has requested around Rs 1.63 lakh crore from the Centre to fund major projects such as the Regional Ring Road (RRR), Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, the Musi Riverfront Development Project, and housing initiatives. These projects are seen as critical to improving the state’s infrastructure and boosting economic growth.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with senior officials, has been engaging with Central authorities in New Delhi to secure these funds. To emphasize the importance of these initiatives, the state has submitted detailed proposals to the Union government. For instance, Rs 34,367 crore has been sought for the RRR project, which aims to improve connectivity and drive economic development. Similarly, Rs 24,269 crore is needed to expand the Hyderabad Metro Rail by 76.4 kilometers under Phase-II to ease traffic congestion. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these projects have already been submitted and are awaiting approval.

During a recent visit to Telangana, Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing Manohar Lal Khattar was briefed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on the state’s financial difficulties. The Chief Minister urged the Centre to extend support for the Hyderabad Metro project and to provide funds for the completion of the Indiramma housing scheme through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Additionally, Rs 14,100 crore has been requested for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, which aims to rejuvenate the river. State officials have made it clear that this initiative cannot move forward without Central funding.

Telangana is also awaiting the release of Rs 1,800 crore under various Centrally-sponsored schemes, as well as funds promised under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. These funds have been pending for over a year. The Chief Minister has highlighted the need for the Centre to fulfill its commitments, including the establishment of an integrated coach factory at Kazipet and a steel plant at Bayyaram, which were assured under the Reorganisation Act. Proposals to improve rail connectivity between Telangana and neighboring states are also awaiting approval.

State officials remain optimistic that the Union Budget will address these pressing needs and provide the required financial support for Telangana’s growth and development in the upcoming financial year.
