Telangana Government Rejects Liquor Price Hike Proposal
The Telangana government has reportedly made a key decision regarding liquor prices in the state. Despite proposals from producers and recommendations by a three-member committee, the government has decided not to increase the prices of liquor. Official sources clarified that the suggestions for a price hike were not approved.
No Liquor Price Increase in Telangana
This news comes as a surprise to many liquor consumers in Telangana. Rumors had been circulating for some time about a possible price hike, but the government has now confirmed that prices will remain the same. The Revanth government has firmly rejected the proposals for higher liquor prices, including those suggested by the three-member committee.
Committee Recommendations Turned Down
Every two years, the three-member committee reviews liquor prices and makes recommendations to the government. Recently, the committee had proposed increasing beer prices by Rs. 20 and prices of other liquors by Rs. 30-40. However, the government declined these recommendations.
Sources reveal that CM Revanth responded strongly to a letter from the Brewers Association of India, which had requested permission to raise beer prices. He reportedly made it clear that the Congress government would not yield to such demands and stressed that maintaining stable prices is a priority.
Earlier Plans for Price Hike Dismissed
Earlier reports suggested that the government was considering raising liquor prices in Telangana. Proposed revisions were based on higher liquor prices in neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It was anticipated that beer prices might increase by Rs. 15-20 and quarter-brand liquor prices by Rs. 10-80. These hikes were expected to generate an additional Rs. 500-700 crore in revenue per month for the state.
However, it now appears that the government has shelved these plans. Liquor prices in Telangana will remain unchanged for the time being, ensuring no added burden on consumers.
