The Telangana government has announced the launch of the Gaddar Awards, a new state-sponsored film awards program. This comes after a 10-year gap in government-backed film awards. The awards are named after Gaddar, the famous folk singer and activist, and aim to honor outstanding films in various categories. The event is set to take place in April.
This initiative is a major change from the previous BRS government, which did not organize any state film awards after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has shown a strong interest in reviving the tradition of recognizing excellence in Telugu cinema.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, nominations for the awards will be accepted from March 13 through the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC). The awards will honor movies and content released between 2014 and 2023, with one winning entry selected from each year.
Award Categories:
– Feature Films
– National Integration Film
– Children’s Film
– Film on Environment, Heritage & History
– Debut Feature Film
– Animated Film
– Social Impact Film
– Documentary Films
– Short Films
The Gaddar Awards are expected to be a grand event, bringing together top Tollywood stars and filmmakers. With the Chief Minister’s active support, this initiative aims to become a prestigious annual event, providing well-deserved recognition to filmmakers across different genres.
