Hyderabad: BJP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy has raised concerns about the government’s handling of farm loan waivers. He questioned if the funds meant for the Rythu Bharosa scheme were being misused. Reddy highlighted the severe “agrarian crisis” in the State, pointing out that 150 farmers had committed suicide under the current Congress government.

During a discussion on budget grants in the Legislative Assembly, Reddy accused the government of manipulating budget figures to deceive the public. He criticized the government for boasting about the farm loan waiver while failing to compensate farmers for crop damage caused by unseasonal rains.

Reddy stated that the State government has not yet assessed the crop damage from April and May. He blamed the government’s failed policies for the high number of farmer suicides. He also demanded that the government provide immediate support to the families of the deceased farmers.

On the topic of the Dharani portal, Reddy questioned the government’s plans to replace it with Bhumata. He also asked if the alleged Rs two lakh crore scam related to the portal would be investigated or if there was an understanding with the ruling Congress party.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar responded by asking Reddy to consider the development of Telangana. He pointed out that the BJP-led Central government has not provided any funds to the State in its budget. Prabhakar suggested that the BJP State leadership should work with their leaders in Delhi to secure funds for Telangana and proposed a joint effort to address this issue.
