The government of Telangana has introduced various welfare and development programs for the upliftment of SC communities in the state. These programs aim to improve their social, political, and economic conditions. The government is providing special schemes to SCs, along with the welfare schemes for other communities.

One of the recently launched schemes, called Dalit Bandhu, has had a significant impact on the lives of Dalit communities. It has increased social and economic respect for SCs who have faced discrimination for generations. So far, 38,323 eligible Dalits have been identified and given Rs. 3,832.30 crores through this scheme.

To ensure funds are used for the development of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, the Special Development Fund Act has been implemented. This act prevents the diversion of funds to other schemes. Additionally, the Ambedkar overseas scholarship provides Rs. 20 lakh to Dalit and Tribal students for higher education abroad. Between 2013-14 and 2022-23, 1031 candidates have benefited from this scheme.

The government has also focused on making Dalits entrepreneurs who can provide employment to others. They have reserved a certain percentage of liquor shop licenses for different communities, including 15% for Gowdas, 10% for SCs, and 5% for STs.

Through the TS PRIDE scheme, assistance is being provided to Dalit entrepreneurs. This includes allotting sites in industrial parks, technical assistance agreements with large industries, financial assistance, and additional investment subsidies.

Other development programs implemented in the state include free power supply up to 101 units for SC houses, the establishment of SC Gurukulams and Residential Junior Colleges, post matric scholarships, SC degree colleges, study circles, installation of India’s largest DR BR Ambedkar statue, and SC Community buildings.

Overall, these initiatives aim to bring about a ‘golden era’ for SC communities in Telangana by improving their education, social status, and economic opportunities.
