The Telangana Education Commission has suggested setting up a special commission to regulate fees in private unaided schools across the state. This recommendation, along with a draft bill, has been submitted to the government. The goal is to control fee structures, making education both affordable and high in quality.
Education Commission chairman Akunuri Murali stressed the importance of a legal framework for this proposal. He explained that without a law, the courts would not accept the commission’s authority. According to the proposal, the commission would be led by a High Court judge or a retired senior official, along with four to five experts from relevant fields.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Education Commission also suggested forming district-level panels. These panels, headed by Collectors and including representatives from the Education Department, would act as local monitoring bodies. Their role would be to ensure schools follow the prescribed fee regulations.
Additionally, the Commission proposed classifying schools into different categories based on factors like location, infrastructure, and teaching quality. A maximum fee limit would be set for each category to maintain a balance between affordability for parents and educational standards. Murali stated that the fee structure should remain within reasonable limits and be adjusted according to the Consumer Price Index.
If these recommendations are put into action, they could bring major changes in how private school fees are regulated. The reforms aim to prevent excessive fees while ensuring that students continue to receive quality education.
