A senior police officer in Telangana has been suspended for allegedly being involved in the kidnapping of a realtor in 2023. The officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) working in the cybercrime unit, was named as a suspect in a case filed in November 2023.
Investigators found that the DSP had used confidential police databases to track the location of a realtor named Srinivas Raju. The officer then shared this information with a group of people who later kidnapped Raju from Nagulapally village in Mokila.
The kidnappers took Raju to a land registration office and forced him to transfer 30 acres of land in their names. After his release, Raju reported the incident to the police, leading to an investigation.
Authorities arrested the kidnappers and, during questioning, discovered that they had obtained Raju’s location details with the help of the DSP. As a result, the officer was added to the list of accused persons in the case.
A report on the DSP’s involvement was submitted to senior police officials. Based on the findings, the officer was recently suspended.
This case has raised concerns about the misuse of police databases and the involvement of law enforcement officers in cyber-related crimes. In response, Hyderabad Police and cybercrime officials are working to strengthen security measures to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information.
