The Congress party in Telangana has started planning strategies to fight back against what it calls the BRS party’s “misinformation.” The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) is focusing on training its social media teams at the Assembly constituency level to take a more aggressive approach.
Party leaders say they are strengthening their current team at the State headquarters. Their goal is to promote government schemes and present a strong response to the narratives pushed by the BRS. A leader from the Congress social media wing mentioned that unlike the BRS, which allegedly spreads misinformation through outsourced campaigns, some of which are even run from abroad, the Congress aims to stick to the facts. However, they recognize the need to be creative and assertive in their messaging to counter the BRS effectively.
After a recent workshop for the PCC’s social media coordinators, where AICC social media chairperson Supriya Shrinate was present, the Congress team started analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the BRS’s growing social media presence.
One Congress leader noted that the BRS has significantly expanded its social media efforts over the past year. The number of people involved in running their campaigns has increased, and Congress is regularly holding meetings to assess the situation. To address this, Congress plans to take a more aggressive stance, including launching training programs for party workers at both the Assembly and parliamentary constituency levels, starting next week.
It’s important to note that before the upcoming Assembly elections, Congress has already been actively using social media. By April 2022, the party had appointed coordinators at the mandal level, who were responsible for sharing content and connecting booth-level workers with those at the Assembly constituency level. Hundreds of these coordinators received training in using Twitter and other social media platforms to help the party communicate its messages more effectively.
