In a major update in the ongoing phone tapping case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sent a notice to Sravan Rao, the managing director of a media company, asking him to appear for questioning on Saturday. The notice was delivered to his family members on March 26.
The investigation began last year in March at the Panjagutta police station. After learning about the case, Sravan Rao left London and fled to the United States. Authorities then issued a red corner notice to track him down while he was in hiding.
Rao later approached the Supreme Court for protection. The court granted him anticipatory bail and told him to cooperate with the police investigation. However, it is still unclear whether he will respond to the SIT’s summons today.
Recently, the Supreme Court gave Rao temporary protection from arrest. Earlier, the High Court had denied his request for anticipatory bail on October 2. Rao then moved his case to the Supreme Court. A two-judge panel, led by Justice B.V. Nagaratna, heard arguments from senior lawyer Dama Seshadri Naidu, who said that Rao is ready to work with the investigators.
