Telangana Cabinet Approves Key Decisions on Reservations, Development, and Welfare
The Telangana state cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has approved a draft bill to provide 42% reservations for backward classes (BCs) in local bodies. The cabinet has also decided to extend the same 42% reservation in education and employment for BCs. This bill will be introduced in the upcoming Legislative Assembly session.
Additionally, the cabinet has accepted the recommendations of the one-member commission on SC classification. A bill will be introduced to ensure the classification holds up legally.
Caste Census and Socio-Economic Data
The cabinet reviewed findings from the Comprehensive Household Survey 2024, which collected data on social, economic, educational, employment, and caste-related aspects across Telangana.
Future City Development
A major decision was taken to develop a Future City on 30,000 acres between the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways. This project will be managed by the Future City Development Authority (FCDA). To facilitate this, 36 villages from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) jurisdiction will be transferred to FCDA.
The Future City will span seven mandals and 56 villages, and the cabinet has approved the creation of 90 new government posts to support its development.
Expansion of HMDA
The cabinet decided to expand the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) jurisdiction by extending its reach two kilometres beyond the Regional Ring Road (RRR). This will bring 1,355 villages across 104 mandals in 11 districts under HMDA’s administration.
Women’s Empowerment – Indira Mahila Shakti Mission 2025
A new initiative, the Indira Mahila Shakti Mission 2025, was approved to help one crore women become millionaires. This program will unify women’s self-help groups in both rural and urban areas.
– The minimum age for membership in self-help groups has been lowered from 18 to 15 years.
– The maximum age for participation has been increased from 60 to 65 years.
Religious and Tourism Developments
– The cabinet approved amendments to the Endowments Act to establish a trust board for the Yadagirigutta Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, similar to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
– A five-year tourism policy (2025–2030) was approved, focusing on developing 27 major tourist destinations. The government aims to attract ₹15,000 crore in investments for tourism infrastructure.
Arrangements for Miss World 2024 & Para-Olympic Winner’s Job
– Telangana will ensure top-class arrangements for guests from 140 countries attending the Miss World 2024 competition in Hyderabad this May.
– Para-Olympics champion Deepthi Jeevanji will be provided with a government job.
Revenue and Infrastructure Decisions
– 10,954 revenue villages will receive new revenue officers.
– 5 acres of land have been allocated for an ESI hospital near Peddagolkonda.
– Approval was granted for 361 new government posts for revenue divisions and mandals.
– 330 new posts for Gurukul schools were sanctioned.
Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri District Water Project
– The capacity of the Gandhamalla Reservoir will be reduced from 4.28 TMC to 1.28 TMC.
Lok Sabha Delimitation Discussions
The cabinet has decided to hold an all-party meeting led by Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and senior leader K. Jana Reddy to discuss the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies. The goal is to prevent injustice to southern states and present a unified request to the central government.
