The Telangana government has announced a budget of ₹371 crore to support handloom and power loom workers in the state. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of weavers and strengthen the textile industry.
Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka shared key measures taken for weavers. The government will set up yarn depots in Sircilla and Vemulawada, with a ₹50 crore corpus fund to help weavers get raw materials easily. Additionally, ₹37.49 crore has been released under the 10% yarn subsidy scheme, clearing old payments for power loom workers that had been pending since 2018.
A major highlight of the budget is the “Chenetha Abhaya Hastham” scheme, which focuses on financial security and welfare for weavers. This scheme includes several initiatives such as Telangana Netanna Podupu (Weavers’ Savings Fund), Telangana Netanna Bhadratha (Weavers’ Insurance), and Telangana Netanna Bharosa (Weavers’ Security). These programs aim to provide long-term financial stability for workers in the handloom sector.
To further support local weavers, the government has decided to distribute two high-quality sarees every year to 64.7 lakh women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). All sarees will be produced by Telangana’s weavers, ensuring more job opportunities and steady income for artisans.
By focusing on local craftsmanship and clearing pending dues, the Telangana government is taking important steps to protect traditional weaving skills, strengthen the handloom industry, and improve the financial conditions of thousands of weaving families across the state.
