Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly recently convened to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26 at the age of 92. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy led the session by moving a condolence motion. He highlighted Singh’s key role in the creation of Telangana in 2014 and praised him as the architect of India’s economic reforms.
During his speech, CM Revanth Reddy underscored Singh’s invaluable contributions to the state and proposed that the central government should posthumously award him the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. The Assembly collectively recognized Singh’s statesmanship and his far-reaching vision for Indian politics.
However, the absence of Leader of Opposition K Chandrasekhar Rao from the session caught public attention. No official explanation was provided regarding his non-participation in this tribute.
Telangana, which became India’s 29th state under Singh’s leadership during the UPA-II government, continues to remember him fondly for his steadfast support in its formation. The winter session of the Assembly, which recently concluded, provided the stage for this significant memorial event. The Assembly’s resolution is seen as a heartfelt gesture to honor Singh’s leadership and legacy, which played a vital role in shaping the state’s existence.
